Tribute to the snow plow operators
Part of my job includes reviewing letters to the editor. I do this pretty much every day, and see all of them when Naomi Schalit is otherwise occupied.
Today, I reviewed one, written by a Waterville woman, that basically just says "thanks" to the local snow plow drivers. I agree with her.
My brother-in-law is a snow-plow guy in central Pennsylvania, where I am from. He works long hours and at times what he does to clear the roads gets pretty hairy.
Then again, Pennsylvania hasn't had near the snow we've had this winter. My father told me they haven't had snow on the ground for weeks.
I cannot imagine what the state and local snow-plow operators in Maine have gone through this winter. I am sure they are making a good amount of money, and they're earning every penny, as far as I'm concened.
I've lived in Maine since 1995 and I have been just impressed with Maine's ability to keep the roads open and deal with our sometimes-severe, winter weather. Nice job, guys and gals.
Our newspapers today had front-page stories saying spring is here. Technically, it is. We probably have three or four more weeks of dicey weather, but we're getting there now.
