Our city editors argued; you decide who's right

We had a competitive, fun exchange between two key editors at Monday's front-page meeting. We hold this meeting each day at 3:30 p.m. to decide what's likely to go on the front pages the next day.

George Myers, city editor at the Morning Sentinel, said a photo by David Leaming of a man catching alewives near the Fort Halifax Dam in Winslow would be "the best photo in either paper tomorrow."

Jim Rosco of Rockland reaches with his net to scoop up alewives in the Sebasticook River below the Fort Halifax dam in Winslow. Fishermen can sell each bucket for roughly $60 as lobster bait. Rosco said the fishing is good both in size and quantity of fish.

Not so fast, said Jim Evans, who's filling in as city editor at the Kennebec Journal. Jim knows photos; he's our photo chief and a regular photographer here as well.

Jim said the scenic shot by Joe Phelan of a man playing horseshoes at sunset would take top honors today.

Why don't you decide? Take a look, post a comment and/or send me an e-mail.

Tough call, they're both great shots. As a fisherman, I guess I'd go with Leaming's photo.

You're both correct; what absolutely beautiful photos that show that spring has finally reached Maine! Either one is a winner. I'm just pleased that they're not of a female Democratic legislator;)
