Maine & New England under a Powda’ Alert!

Ga'Day Powda' lovers! Where else, but right here in the GREAT State of Maine .. and even our close next door neighbors in New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and the ski resorts in Quebec, Canada are all shouting "powda' alert!"

It's snorkel skiing at its best, and the forecast is for more coming Sunday!

Places like Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, Lost Valley in Auburn, Camden Snow Bowl, Hermon Mountain in Hermon, Saddleback in Rangeley, Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley and others all received a significant snowfall on Monday. Some trails got almost three feet of champagne powda! The same holds true for ski resorts in Quebec.

Bretton Woods in New Hampshire has reported almost five feet in six days!

Headed out west? The east has received more snow than many western resorts, and to think more about it … most eastern slopes are just a tank full of gas away. Drive today, ski today!

Special deals to get out and ski
Saddleback Mountain has a great deal going on Saturday, Maine Day for $25. At Mount Sunapee, a season pass holder can bring a friend on Thursday to ski for $39.

And Holy Cow! Shawnee Peak has several deals. Ski for CHEAP this Sunday. That's right. Two people can ski or ride all day this Sunday, March 1st for just $80. You have to purchase tickets online only before 10 a.m. this Thursday. After that, the deal is gone!

The outdoors is a great way to spend time together with kids, family and friends.

Ski and ride safely. Use your head and don't forget to wear a helmet.

Pardon me Sugarloaf, your backside is showing!

That's right. Sugarloaf's backside snowfields are open for skiers and riders. This premier resorts has received almost 40 inches of new snow this past week and the resort is now 100 percent open.

The mountain sports the only above tree-line skiing in the east, with the overall snow depth at 167 inches for the season … so far. And March has historically been one of the snowiest months at the resort.

One hundered percent of Sugarloaf's terrain is now open, offering snowfields named routes including High Rigger, Hard Tack and Pure Heat, as well as the Front side trails of Jagger, Ignitor and White Nitro Extension, which is regularly groomed.

So get those boards, teles and straight sticks out and get out and play. "Call in sick," you say? If you do, just don't say you're 'sick of the snow!' Tell the boss you're sick and on the backside! Better hope you don't meet the 'boss' up there making tracks!

Ski and ride safely. Use your head and don't forget to wear a helmet!

Gunstock Mountain is right for families

Most likely the name Gunstock doesn't ring a bell with most Mainers. Most will think of the term that is attached to a barrel of a gun.

Well, you're partially right, but the "Gunstock" I'm referring to is a wonderful family ski area located in the town of Guilford, in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, just about two hours west from Portland.

There “Gold” in them thar’ Hills!

And it's "White" Gold that fell on Maine's ski slopes, the second storm to drop almost two feet of snow.

It's almost to the point of snorkel skiing, if you know what I mean, and getting buried up over your knees is amazing. It brought back memories of back country skiing in some bowls out west, but with the eastern altitude and not the attitude!
