China schools

China has three schools that the students attend. These schools provide the education for the towns students and include China Primary School, China Middle School, and Erskine Academy. However, China does not have its own public high school, so the town sends its students to one of the other area high schools of the student's choosing.

China Primary School is located at 763 Lakeview Drive, behind the Middle School and is available for students in grades Kindergarten to fourth grade. Web site.

China Middle School is located at 773 Lakeview Drive and is available for students in grades 5-8. Web site.

Erskine Academy is a private high school, located in South China on Route 32. It is one of the high schools available for China's students to attend and is where the majority of students decide to go. In 2003, 251 out of 307 high school aged students in China did choose to attend Erskine. It is also where many of the surrounding towns also send their students. Erskine does not cap its enrollment in an effort to provide services for all students whose educational needs they can meet.
Erskine is very proud to be the 2004 Boy's Class B State Champions, in their first appearance at the State Championship ever. http://www.erskineacademy.org/

CHINA TOWN HISTORY Located in Kennebec County, China was incorporated on February 5, 1818 from parts of the towns of Harlem, Fairfax (now Albion), and Winslow. Harlem was created from the former Jones Plantation in 1796 and later annexed by China in 1822. In 1829 China ceded land to Vassalboro. China Lake, around which Quakers and Baptists settled in the early 19th century, dominates the community and its history as a recreational center.
