Flood of '87 | Readers remember
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel

Red Cross assess damage I was on the Disaster Assessment Team for the American Red Cross out of the Waterville Armory. I went around different towns assessing flood damage in homes and did shelter operations. Want to know more about things? Some people would be angry I was at their place some not. Some trying to get stuff for nothing. A lot of people suffered a great loss and were heartbroken. Lost everything; some lost pets. Inter-politics played a big part in the Red Cross at this time.

The main thing was the loss of homes and personal belongings. I am still a member of the Red Cross active in Mass care/Shelter manager. One main concern during the flood was the Bingham Dam letting go. It is still a concern and being monitored all the time.
