Flood of '87 | Readers remember
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel

Working for the city I worked for the city, parks and cemeteries department, and remember having to help move the contents of two floors - that included the Augusta Police Dept. - to the third level of old city hall. The river was filling both floors quickly. We had help from Cony students.

After the flood waters left the building, we had to spend a long time ripping up old floors and remodeling the rooms.

Four of Augusta's city parks also were ruined by flooding; some with six inches of river silt.
