Flood of '87 | Readers remember
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel

Stranded at home I had just left work at 5 p.m. Why I wasn't aware of any alerts, I don't know. I had a 35-mile trip home, mostly all rural area without much traffic to travel alone (usually) on Route 2 from Farmington to West Peru.

But this night traffic was backed up in areas where only one car at a time could pass VERY SLOWLY, as water gushed over the road and only the white line was barely visible. It was a little scary venturing out, but I had to get home and it was dark out and raining cats and dogs, so to speak.

Once I got home up on Lovejoy Hill, I was stranded there for several days as one of the worst areas hit was below the hill. The water had come way up over the bridge and surrounding large area that led to Route 2. This is a horrendous memory that I'll never forget.
