Flood of '87 | Readers remember
Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel

Kind words to a kindergartener During the flood of '87 I was a fifth grader at the old Farrington Elementary School. I remember Ms. Chadwick asking us to buddy up with the kindergartners while we sat in the main hall waiting for the buses to come get us before they closed the bridges. I new I would be fine since I lived on the eastside and quite a long distance away from the river. The biggest thing I remember is the little girl I was sitting next to who asked me what she was supposed to do if the river came into the school or if it got her mommy and daddy. I didn't think this would happen, so I assured her that she would be fine and she would get home to her mom and dad very soon. Everything would be OK.

I now look back wondering what I would have thought had I been that kindergartener.
