MADISON Mobile Memories, a traveling memorial for Vietnam War veterans, will be exhibited beginning on Saturday at the 26th Annual Father Rasle Madison-Anson Days.
Mobile Memories will exhibit items that were carried or sent home from Vietnam, such as dog tags, boots, sacks, and clothing, according to organizer Frank Withee. "The names of 343 Maine boys who died in Vietnam will be etched into colored glass and back lit at night," Withee said. Withee said the mobile memorial will be parked in the T. R. Dillon Logging Co. parking lot beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Withee asked that anyone who has contacts for family members who lost loved ones in Vietnam may search www.bairnet.org for more information. Plans for the memorial were organized by Captain Lennie Greene of the Orono Police Department. Locally, Clyde and Edward Withee, two brothers born and raised in the Madison, Skowhegan area, were killed in Vietnam. Frank Withee said they were his cousins.
