Vision statement

Readers consider the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel the definitive and primary source of local news and advertising in central Maine.

We are distinguished papers of our size; we go beyond standard news coverage with journalism that informs, probes and provokes.
Our vision is fulfilled and sustained through the dedication and hard work of our employees, who are treated with respect and recognized based on their performance.

We are devoted to our role in a democratic society: to provide unbiased and accurate news coverage, with an emphasis on our region, recognizing we are also the main source of printed world, national and state news.

Equally important is our role as a virtual town square, where opinions are expressed, exchanged and challenged.

Our pages reflect the lives of the people of central Maine — readers see themselves and their neighbors in our newspapers.

We produce newspapers that are printed crisply and cleanly and are organized and labeled for easy navigation.

Customers — whether readers, advertisers or commercial print — rank us among the best for service of any central Maine business. Every customer encounters a friendly voice and a helpful attitude.

We communicate with our readers, recognizing and reinforcing our close relationship by developing an ongoing dialogue.

Each newspaper is delivered complete, on time, dry and where the customer wants it. Newsstand papers are available earlier than any competitor and have the best possible product placement.

Our circulation is increasing and keeping pace with market growth.

Advertisers are valued for their business and for the content they bring to readers, who see a useful and attractive ad as a valuable part of the newspaper.

Central Maine businesses consider us an integral part of their success.

We use advances in technology to improve our operations and to better serve readers and advertisers.

Errors are at a minimum because everyone takes personal responsibility for their work. When errors occur, we freely acknowledge them, correct them immediately and take steps to prevent them in the future.

We will grow by providing newspapers and other products that serve the current and evolving needs of our market.
