Update on a few locals
Katye Mayo, Jordan Stevens and Katie Frett have all made their presence felt early in their college careers. Mayo is a sophomore goalkeeper on the St. Joseph's women's soccer team, Stevens is a sophomore linebacker on the football team at UMaine, and Frett is a freshman playing field hockey at Wellesley College.
Mayo, a Lawrence High School grad, is one of the reasons St. Joe's is 6-0 for the first time in 20 years of women's soccer at the school. The Monks have allowed just five goals on the season while scoring 19. They are 2-0 in conference play and play at Mt. Ida this afternoon.
Stevens had a standout game in a tough loss to Villanova on Saturday. The Temple native led the Black Bears with nine tackles, including two for losses totaling 18 yards. Stevens is fifth on the team with 15 total tackles in three games.
Frett, a finalist for the Miss Maine Field Hockey Award as a senior at Hall-Dale last fall, has started all four games for Wellesley, which is off to a 3-1 start. Frett scored the first goal of her career on Sunday. Wellesley is coached by Becca Vaill, a 2002 graduate of Colby College.
