Things to look for in Week 4
Hard to believe, but we are entering the halfway point of the high school football season as teams prepare for Week 4. With that in mind, here are a few things to watch for this weekend.
* Can Lawrence keep on winning? Lawrence High School will attempt to extend its winning streak to 15 games when it travels to Brunswick Saturday. The Bulldogs last loss was in the 2005 Pine Tree Conference semifinals, when they lost to Skowhegan on Nov. 4.
* Can MCI stop its losing streak? The Huskies have lost 11 straight, dating back to a 37-36 win over Stearns on Sept. 1, 2006.
* How will Gardiner's defense play against Waterville quarterback Dan Hussey? In three games, Hussey has passed for 591 yards and six touchdowns. Gardiner, meanwhile, has allowed just 28 points in three games.
It will also be interesting to see how Waterville's defense plays against Gardiner's high-power, multidimensional offense.
* How does a former double wing team handle the double wing? The Cony Rams ran the double wing for years before switching to more spread formations. Will that experience help Cony against Skowhegan's version of the offense, which has helped the Indians score over 41 points a game.
