Ramblers off to fast start
The schedule couldn't have worked out any better for a young Winthrop High School football team.
The Ramblers ran their Campbell Conference record to 4-0 Friday night with a 27-12 win over Madison. However, Winthrop coach Joel Stoneton felt his team had a letdown after an emotional win at Jay last week.
"We've got a lot of work to do before we're going to beat some other teams in this conference," Stoneton said.
The Ramblers travel to Boothbay next week to face the preseason conference favorite Seahawks. They'll have to deal with Boothbay double-wing offense better than they did in the first half against Madison's option game.
"We talked about option responsibilities," Stoneton said of his halftime speech. "The kis came back and reacted."
After Boothbay, the Ramblers face Old Orchard, Dirigo, Livermore and Lisbon and expect to be in the battle for a playoff spot.
