Moon over Madison

I saw my first football game in Madison on Friday night and enjoyed it thoroughly. I've seen better games than Madison's 51-20 victory over Yarmouth, but I'm not talking about the game as much as the atmosphere.

That even included a few quirky comments from the announcer. I don't know the guy's name, but I recall him saying to the crowd, "nice moon out tonight for all you romantics." This wouldn't fly in Fairfield or Augusta, but somehow it fits in Madison. This was also the school's homecoming game and each of the classes produced a float that was hauled around the field by truck at halftime. The school spirit was impressive and my vote for best float goes to the "frightening freshman."
The ticket takers were friendly, the snackbar fast and reasonably priced.
This was simply what a small community does on Friday night. Everyone pitches in and contributes to a few hours of high school fun and I was happy to be part of it.
