FIELD HOCKEY: Tidbits from Thursday's games

Here are a few extra items from some interesting games played on Thursday, including a milestone at Gardiner and two teams which almost got caught looking ahead to their next game.

There was a presentation before Thursday's Brewer at Gardiner game to honor Hailey Chadbourne, who recently set the career record for points by a Gardienr player. Chadbourne, a junior at Gardiner, has 43 goals and 34 assists in her career for a total of 120 points (two for a goal, one for an assist). The former record of 112 was held by Laura Nimon, who is now at Stonehill College and was recently named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week.

Chadbourne had 11 goals and nine assists as a freshman, 18 goals and 14 assists last fall, and 14 goals and 11 assists so far this year.

Gardiner and Skowhegan may have been guilty of looking ahead to their game on Saturday at Gardiner, which will likely decide home-field advantage throughout the Eastern A tournament.

Both teams were tied 0-0 at the half of home games on Thursday. Both teams then went on to record 4-0 victories.

With one game remaining in the regular season, Nokomis is 7-6 after Thursday's 2-1 overtime win over Maine Central Institute. The Warriors were 4-9-2 last season.

How about the goal Oak Hill scored to clinch its win over Rockland? Kayla Clark took a free hit from midfield, and the ball went all the way into the circle, where it was deflected into the cage by Ashley Dalessandris. How often do you see a play like that?

Oak Hill is at Maranacook on Saturday, and while the game won't be huge for Maranacook, the Raiders could likely clinch a playoff spot with a win.
