Golf: Browne steps down
Natanis pro Dick Browne will still be a familiar figure at Maine high school golf events since many of them, including the state team and individual championships, Browne has another week are held at the Vassalboro course.
But Browne will no longer be the coach of the Winslow High School golf team. After 16 years at that job, Browne announced he's getting done following Saturday's state team championships in which his Black Raiders placed third in Class B.
"I'm going to play a little golf in the fall and just enjoy myself a little more," Browne said. "This stresses me out. I can't do anything, I'm just watching them."
Browne has actually done a lot for his team, beginning with providing them with professional-type instruction free of cost. Last year, he coached the Black Raiders to the State Class B title, and helped them qualify again despite the graduation of three key team members.
Browne has another week of coaching left since three of his golfers qualified for the individual championships, scheduled at Natanis on Saturday.
