FOOTBALL: Top 10 for this week
With the regular season winding down, here is my top 10 for this week:
1. Lawrence
2. Bonny Eagle
3. Gorham
4. Bangor
5. Mountain Valley
6. Lewiston
7. Thornton Academy
8. Massabesic
9. Cape Elizabeth
10. Skowhegan
Only one game between ranked teams this week, Bonny Eagle at Gorham. The winner of that game will be the top seed in the SMAA playoffs, which begin next week.
Other big rivalry games this weekend include Lawrence at Messalonskee, Skowhegan at Mt. Blue, Biddeford at Thornton Academy, Cheverus at Deering, South Portland at Portland, and Winslow at Waterville.
Be sure to see the media and coaches polls in Friday's paper.
I am writing to express my outrage at the commentary at the Lawrence versus Messalonski game tonite. Up until the second half, they would announce who ran the ball, who tackled etc., but once Lawrence scored after the half it was like the Eagles were playing all alone. They tackled and their name was announced, they ran and their name was announced. The only time a Bulldog players name was used was when absolutely necessary. Several other people present also noticed this. I live in Rome so I am part of the Eagles district, but am ashamed that our high school adults would show this unsportsmanlike conduct. The game was a good one and the both teams have nothing to be ashamed of. They played hard.
