FOOTBALL: Waterville keeps rolling

The Waterville Senior High School football is a threat in the Pine Tree Conference Class B playoffs.

The Panthers have a play-making quarterback in Dan Hussey, some capable runners, play strong defensively and are terrific on special teams.
Hussey's 50-yard touchdown pass to Josh Gaudette in the second quarter of the Panthers 17-7 win over Leavitt in the Pine Tree Conference Class B quarterfinals was a thing of beautiful. With Waterville at the 50-yard line, Gaudette ran a simple fade down the left sideline. Hussey's pass fell right into the hands of Gaudette, who never had to break stride on his way to a touchdown.
The Panthers have won five straight, including a somewhat surprising win over defending PTC B champion Winslow to recover from a 1-3 start and are 6-3 heading into their rematch with Gardiner Area High School in the semifinals.
Waterville played pretty well against Gardiner in a 24-8 loss on Sept. 21. and hasn't lost since.
They'll have to win at Hoch Field against the No. 1 Tigers, which is never easy, but Waterville has proven down the stretch it is a threat to do just that.
