FOOTBALL: Big weekend on tap

Three terrific local rivalries highlight the high school football regional finals this weekend.

In the Pine Tree Conference's Class B division, Winslow and Gardiner face off at 11 a.m. Saturday for the fourth time in two years and the second straight time in the conference championship game. The Tigers won the last two regular season meetings between the two schools, but Winslow won the title last fall.
One of the small-town high school football rivalries has been reborn as Winthrop hosts Boothbay in the Campbell Conference Class C title game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. In the late 1990s and early 2000s there wasn't a better rivalry in football. Hopefully, it's back.
In the PTC A's division, Lawrence looks for it's 22st straight win and second straight conference title. The Bulldogs again host Bangor with a state championship berth on the line. Game time is 7 p.m. Friday.
Check out the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel all weekend for complete coverage of the regional championship games.

Make sure Travis has no comments on the Gardiner/Mountain Valley game. He seems to not know what he is talking about, as far as rankings and such. Must be a Gardiner hater? Anyway, good luck to the Tigers, all the way from Wooster, Ohio!
