FOOTBALL: PTC A followup

The Pine Tree Conference Class A doesn't give a Most Valuable Player Award for the playoffs, so I'm going to go ahead and give it to Lawrence quarterback Jack Hersom.

In three playoff games, Hersom completed 72.7 percent of his pass attempts (32 of 44) for 622 yards and four touchdowns. Hersom threw no interceptions.

Hersom's favorite target throughout the PTC playoffs was Nick Nelson, who caught 17 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

Hersom and the Bulldogs were at their best in third and fourth down situations. Of 15 passes thrown on third or fourth down, Hersom completed 11 for an average gain of just over 23 yards.

Lawrence (11-0) faces Bonny Eagle, also 11-0, in the Class A state championship game on Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland. The Maine Principals' Association will announce the game time on Tuesday.
