COLLEGES: Blake, Frett earn regional honors

Katie Frett, a Hall-Dale High School graduate who is a freshman at Wellesley College, and Lauren Blake, a Messalonskee grad who is now a sophomore at Clark University, both earned regional honors for their field hockey play this season.

Frett, of Hallowell, started every game for Wellesley and scored seven goals this season. She was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year. Wellesley finished 13-6 and lost in the conference championship game to Springfield College.

Frett was named second-team all-NEWMAC and was also named to the 2007 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region Team as a second-team member.

Blake, of Oakland, led Clark with 17 goals and eight assists for a total of 42 points -- just four short of the school's single-season record, which has stood since 1993. Blake led the NEWMAC in points per game and was third in goals per game. Nationally, she ranked 11th in points per game and 15th in goals per game.

Blake was a second-team all-NEWMAC selection and was named to the NFHCA New England East All-Region team. Clark finished 7-10, losing to Wheaton in the NEWMAC quarterfinals.
