BOYS BASKETBALL: 3 key games Tuesday
It's never too early for a test on the basketball court and three of them are on tap Tuesday night in just the second game of the season.
In a Class D game, defending Western Maine champion Richmond hosts perennial power Valley. Richmond knocked off the Cavs twice last season for the first time in 10 years, but the teams appear on equal footing this year. Richmond has the size advantage with 6-foot-10 Marc Zaharchuk in the middle but Valley has the edge in experience with three returning starters led by center Trevor Miller and point guard Curtis Miller.
Edward Little at Cony features a strong Class A matchup between teams that were picked among the top four in the preseason poll. The Rams return senior Andrew Pullen who scored 31 against Lewiston last Friday while the Eddies features a trio of strong guards who are quick on defense.
Winthrop will be favored in its matchup at Boothbay since the host Seahawks lost four starters from a year ago. But they return 6-5 shot blocking center Kris Noonan and Boothbay is one of the toughest places to play in the Mountain Valley Conference.
