BASEBALL: Local coaches react to Mitchell Report

Several area baseball coaches on Thursday expressed their disappointment and concern over the findings of the Mitchell Report.

The report, which took 20 months to complete and was overseen by former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, connected as many as 80 players to baseball's Steroid Era. Many coaches said the report illustrates the challenges they face as mentors today. Jim Palmer, the varsity baseball coach at Gardiner, said, "How do you preach to kids to work hard when there’s this other message out there that you can make it to the top by doing these other things. It’s awfully discouraging."
It's tough to argue with that.
For more local reaction to the Mitchell Report, check out Friday's edition of the Morning Sentinel and Kennebec Journal.
