BASKETBALL: Free throws are still a lost art

Free throw percentage has been on the decline for a few years, and Friday night's boys basketball game between Oak Hill and Waterville was another painful reminder of that.

Waterville won the game 56-50, but either team could have taken control of the game had they made their foul shots. Waterville was just 13 of 29 as a team, while Oak Hill was 6 for 17 at the line. That's a 41 percent rate.

Only three players in the game managed to make better than 50 percent of his free throws. Waterville's Nate Theriault was 6 for 10, while Oak Hill's Shawn Greenier was 3 for 5, and Bronson Drewry was 2 for 3.

In all, the teams missed the front end of a one and one opportunity six times. That's just throwing away points, and in a close game, those missed freebies can be the difference.
