HOCKEY: Lawrence hockey impresses

The Lawrence hockey team buried Brewer 5-3 Thursday night, a huge victory for the upstart Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs (8-7-1) were ranked fifth in the latest Eastern A Heal points released Tuesday. Brewer (13-3-0) was second. The victory should give the Bulldogs a nice boost in the Heal points, perhaps pushing them as high as fourth. The top three in Eastern A -- Lewiston, Brewer and Waterville -- are all but set, although Waterville could catch Brewer should it win out. The Panthers still have Winslow, Bangor and Lewiston left on their schedule.
The Bulldogs have had an interesting season to say the least. They have tied and beaten Waterville. They have beaten Messalonskee, twice. And now Brewer. However, Lawrence has also lost to Mt. Ararat. Earlier in the season, the Bulldogs were routed by Lewiston (12-2) and Brewer (9-2), although they are a much different team now.
One thing is for certain regarding the Bulldogs: They will be a tough out in the Eastern A tournament.
