BOYS BASKETBALL: Maranacook vs. Rockland

The Eastern B boys quarterfinal between No. 1 Maranacook and No. 8 Rockland is under way. The winner will play No. 5 Matttanawcook, a 59-43 winner over Caribou in the first game of the morning.

At the end of the third quarter, Rockland leads 49-48. Dylan Meklin and Tyler Patterson combined for all but 3 of Rockland's points in the quarter.

UPDATE: Maranacook leads 55-51 and has the ball with 1:10 left in the fourth quarter.

UPDATE: Rockland's Teel Ilvonen just hit his sixth 3-pointer of the game. Maranacook leads 55-54 and has the ball with 27.2 seconds left. Rockland is over the limit for personal fouls in the half.

UPDATE: Will Bardaglio hit two free throws to give Maranacook a 57-54 lead with 18.9 seconds left. Rockland has the ball out of bounds after a timeout.

At the end of the first quarter, Maranacook leads 22-17. Ryan Martin has 12 points for the Bears and Dylan Meklin has eight for Rockland. The Tigers have been making an extra effort to go inside since Maranacook's Conrad Gilman went out afdter picking up two fouls.

UPDATE: Gilman picked up his 3rd foul 12 seconds into the second quarter.

At halftime, Maranacook leads 38-32. Rockland took a 24-22 lead early in the second quarter, but Dylan Meklin (eight points) and Tyler Patterson (four) each sat out most of the second quarter after picking up two fouls.

The teams combined for nine 3-pointers in the first half, including four by Rockland junior guard Teel Ilvonen. The single-game Eastern B boys tournament record for one player is eight, by MDI's Justin Norwood in 1998.

Ilvonen leads Rockland with 14 points at the half. Ryan Martin has 18 for Maranacook, but has taken only 10 shots because Rockland is doing a good job of helping junior guard Lincoln Dresser on defense when Martin tries to penetrate.

With Gilman in foul trouble, Maranacook senior forward Max HoddWells has played some key minutes inside.

Maranacook is 12 for 23 from the field. Rockland is 9 for 20.
