High School Sports
Scott Martin has covered high school sports at the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel for the eight years. A graduate of Lake Region High School and the University of Maine in Orono, Martin has worked for these newspapers for nearly 10 years. Martin also coaches middle school baseball and basketball in his spare time.

WRESTLING: Goewey ends career with title

Maine Central Institute senior Cinjin Goewey capped his high school wrestling career with a Class B state title in the 135-pound class.

Goewey started his senior season with win over Class A state champion Sam Webber of Mt. Blue in the Tiger Invitational. He ended it with another pin, this time beating Jack Simpkin of Camden Hills at the Class B state championship.
Also at the Class B state final, Winslow's Derek Clark pin York's Ben Hetch in the 160-pound consolation finals and Clyde Tibbetts of Oak Hill pinned Brian Cogley of Mountain Valley in the 171-pound consolation finals.
In Class C, Hall-Dale High School's Zack Vickers lost in the 125-pound championship final to Brian O'Connor of Dexter. O'Connor won a 5-3 decision.
Monmouth's Cody Guzman and Michael Danforth also reached championship finals, losing in the 145-pound and 130-pound finals, respectively.
