GIRLS BASKETBALL: Forest Hills/Richmond no snoozer
I went to the Class D girls matchup between Richmond and Forest Hills on Tuesday morning half awake. Sportswriters, as a rule, like to sleep in.
I doubted if this game would shake the cobwebs from my eyes, but by the end of it I was as into as the 800 or so fans in attendance. Here was little Forest Hills — enrollment 59, playing with four players because three of their seven had fouled out — mounting a comeback. Two hundred and fifty strong who made the trip from Jackman were on their feet chanting defense as their Tigers tied the score. In the end, Richmond hung on as sophomore Megan DeRaps hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Richmond coach Molly Bishop jumped two feet in the air and pumped her fist as the shot went down.
Both crowds went away satisfied these teams left it on the floor and isn't that what the tournament is all about?
