Maine Moose ready for tryouts
The Maine Moose, who compete in the International Junior Hockey League, open their tryouts today for the 2008-09 season.
The organization features three teams — super elite, elite and new this year, an under-18 select squad.
Moose super elite coach Glenn Carey has been busy trying to secure commitments from some of the area’s top high school players, including Blaine Cardali (Brunswick), Chris Howe (Gardiner), Greg Cyr (Presque Isle), Casey Poussard (Lewiston), Zach Parent (Messalonskee), Nick DeBlois (Messalonskee), Chad Guptill (Winslow), and Sean Bourgeois (Winslow), among others.
“We’ve been pursuing Greg (Cyr) pretty hard,” said Carey on Presque Isle’s big defenseman. “We’re also trying to get Mike LaBrie of Messalonskee, too.”
Carey doesn’t know what to expect Friday at registration as some players, including Poussard, are still exploring their college options.
Parent, who helped lead the Eagles to the Eastern A quarterfinals this season, has already been offered a contract.
