Denbow having fine season as a college freshman
Each Sunday, the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel publish a list of student-athletes who went to high school in our coverage area and are now playing in college. I'm glad we get to do it, but sometimes, the line of numbers doesn't tell the whole story. A good example is Justin Denbow, a Maranacook grad now playing baseball at Eastern Nazarene.
Eastern Nazarene swept a doubleheader on Saturday, but that only upped the Crusaders' record to 9-25. Understanding that context will help show you the quality of Denbow's season.
Denbow is hitting .333, which is 68 points higher than the team average of .265. His slugging percentage is 80 points higher than the team average and his on-base percentage is 81 points higher.
As a pitcher, Denbow is 2-5 in eight starts with a 6.43 ERA. In this case, that's not too bad. Denbow leads the Crusaders in innings (42) and strikeouts (46). His teammates have an ERA of 7.68, well over a run higher per nine innings.
