Winslow-Erskine softball

How often do you retire 20 batters in a row and still come away with a loss? It happened to Erskine sophomore pitcher Sam Morse on Monday. Morse finished with a one-hitter, but Winslow won 2-1 by scoring a pair of unearned runs in the first inning.

Both Morse and Winslow pitcher Katie Knowlen took an inning to adjust to the strike zone. Each walked two in the first inning but nobody in the last six. Knowlen allowed two hits, but one runner was caught stealing and another was erased on a double play.

Erskine has to feel pretty good coming out of this game. The Eagles were 4-12 last year in Eastern A, and played evenly with the perennial No. 1 in the KVAC B.

The game was quick (about an hour for the last six innings) and the fans surely appreciated that. It was raining and windy most of the game. While the temperature wasn't winter-like, it sure was unpleasant after the weather we got last week. Hats off to the teams and pitchers for performing so well and giving us a quality game in those conditions.
