Gardiner moves the fences in
It still takes a decent poke to hit a baseball out of Hoch Field, but it's a little easier this season than in year's past. The fences down the left and right field lines have been moved in 45 feet.
It’s 330 feet down each line and 350 to center. Last year, it was 375 feet down both lines and the wind rarely blows out.
“We did it last Monday,” Gardiner coach Jim Palmer said. “We just decided to try to make it a (symmetrical) ball park. We’ve been waiting for years to try to get them in.”
The power alleys are deep, about 350 feet, although the measurements aren’t noted on the fence. Last season, Gardiner’s Sean McNally and Kyle Stilphen were the only players who managed to hit a ball over the outfield fence.
