Cony softball still rolling
The Cony softball team took advantage of four Oxford Hills errors and a few mental meltdowns to pull out an 8-4 win Wednesday.
The Rams scored three in the first and two more in the second to put the visiting Vikings away.
Cony coach Rocky Gaslin said the team has been working on making contact after it struck out 11 times in a 5-3 victory over Brunswick earlier this week. Well, the Rams came out swinging and banged out seven hits. More importantly, they struck out just four times.
Oxford Hills never really threatened, although it loaded the bases with one out in the seventh. But the mental breakdowns did the Vikings in. They botched two rundowns in one play in the first inning.
By the time the third inning rolled around, Oxford Hills coach Cindy Goddard had clearly seen enough.
She yelled to her team, “if we had our heads in this game it might be a little different.”
After the game, she was at a loss of words when asked to describe her team’s breakdowns.
