Maranacook-Medomak softball

This was one of those games that was interesting from beginning to end. there was only one 1-2-3 inning, and Maranacook certainly earned its 4-3 victory Tuesday afternoon.

Medomak struck out 14 times against Maranacook sophomore ace Sarah Maxwell, but Maxwell also threw 110 pitches. The reason was foul balls, as the Panthers had 25 of them. There were also 23 swings and misses.

Medomak cleanup hitter and third baseman Tessa Dodge is probably the most dangerous hitter I've seen this season. She saw four pitches on Tuesday -- and drilled the ball three times. She hit a triple in the right-center field gap, a home run to deep left and a shot right to the second baseman for a groundout.

Part of the reason this game was so fun to watch was the genuine excitement from the players. When Dodge hit a game-tying home run in the top of the sixth inning, the Medomak team rushed out of the dugout, and the player first in line gave her a bear hug.

Maranacook could get the No. 1 seed in Western B. After the game, the Black Bears broke their huddle by chanting, "5-4-3-2-you know!"
