BASEBALL: Cony's run ends
The Cony High School baseball teams has loads of talent and it is all very young. The Rams had just two seniors on the roster in Saturday's 7-3 loss in the Eastern A semifinal at Morton Field, starting third baseman Greg O'Neill and starting first baseman Cory Nason.
The Rams starting lineup featured four sophomores, one freshman and one junior.
Starting pitcher Jake Beland, a sophomore, pitched four strong innings before leaving with the bases loaded in the fifth.
Leadoff hitter Jake Lachance, a sophomore, went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base (though he did make a base running mistake that possibly cost Cony a big inning in the seventh).
No. 2 hitter Luke Duncklee, a freshman, went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a sacrifice bunt.
No. 3 hitter Charlie Partridge, a sophomore, went 2 for 3 with two singles, an RBI and a walk.
No. 9 hitter Jason Burns, a sophomore, went 2 for 2 with two singles, a walk, a run scored and a stolen base.
"This is a learning experience for us," Cony coach Ray Vallee said. "We'll play about 30 games this summer and come back having played a lot of baseball."
