Big late season games

It's rare that two undefeated football teams meet in a late season game, as is the case this week when 6-0 Lawrence plays at 6-0 Skowhegan.

Here are some examples of other big late season games in central Maine from recent seasons.

2006: Winslow and Waterville met in the regular season finale. Both teams were 6-1, with a loss to Gardiner. Winslow won, defeated Waterville again in the conference semifinals, and went on to win the Pine Tree Conference Class B title.

2003: A 5-1 Skowhegan team hosted a 5-1 Brunswick team in week 7. Brunswick won 14-0, and went on to win the PTC A crown. The loss triggered a three-game losing streak for the Indians, who went on to drop back-to-back games to Mt. Blue, in the regular season final and in the first round of the playoffs.

2002: Skowhegan was 7-0 and Mt. Blue was 6-1 when the rivals played in week 8. Skowhegan won 28-7, but lost to Edward Little in the semifinals of the conference playoffs.

Lawrence vs. Skowhegan isn't the only game between undefeated teams in the area this weekend. In the Campbell Conference Class C, 6-0 Winthrop plays at 6-0 Dirigo on Saturday afternoon with first place at stake.
