A high-scoring Warrior

Junior Sabrina Vaillancourt has had a knack for scoring ever since she joined the varsity field hockey team at Nokomis. This season, Vaillancourt has 25 goals and is closing in on the school's career goal-scoring record.

Vaillancourt has nine multiple-goal games this season for the top-ranked Warriors, who are 12-1-2 and host an Eastern B semifinal against Belfast at noon, Saturday.

Nokomis coach Katie Thompson said the school single-season record for goals is 34, which is probably out of reach, but Vaillancourt has 49 career goals, just four behind the all-time Nokomis record of 53. Thompson said Vaillancourt is planning on playing field hockey in college.

Nokomis beat Belfast, 4-1, in the regular season finale, but Thompson said she has already talked with her players to make sure they don't expect an easy game Saturday.

"I know that Belfast is definitely used to being in the tournament," Thompson said. "They're going to bring their best game. We need to bring our best game. They know that you can't take that for granted. Any day can be a different day in field hockey."

Great Job Sabrina! Alison Berg is also closing in on a school record with the number of career assists she has had over her 4 years. She needs only four more to break the record. Keep up the great team work.
