GIRLS SOCCER: Practice makes perfect for Winslow
The Winslow High School girls soccer team used a sharp short-passing game to win the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championship with a 3-2 win over Medomak Valley on Thursday.
The Raiders showed terrific chemistry, setting each other up for a number of quality chances.
The key, according to coach Scott Wood, is practice.
"Practice, practice, practice," Wood said. "It happens over time. We have some overall program goals we are trying to do and establish system wide. The girls will tell you they don't like the drills we do, but they seem to work. It's constant touches on the ball."
Jordyn Mallett, who plays a key role in that short-passing game from her midfield position, said the drills work on both condition and passing.
"Everytime it is like, 'Oh God,' " Mallett said of the time in practice when the Raiders work on their short passing game. "But it really works."
