FOOTBALL: O'Neill enjoys send off
Last fall, Cony High School's Greg O'Neill rushed for over 200 yards in a win over Oxford Hills.
The senior hasn't seen much time at tailback this fall, filling in at fullback for the injured T.J. Vallee, but returned to that position in his final game in a Cony uniform Friday night.
O'Neill played well too, though he wasn't quite as dominant as he was a year ago.
O'Neill rushed 14 times for 63 yards and a touchdown, while catching five passes for 28 yards and another score in Cony's 41-6 win over Oxford Hills.
O'Neill earned his time at tailback in practice this week, according to Cony coach Robbie Vachon. The Rams scrimmaged a lot during the week, putting their best offense agains their best defense, and O'Neill thrived.
"He looked fantastic," Vachon said. "I think we missed the boat a little bit a times. With T.J. out we went to play (O'Neill) at fullback because we like to throw to our fullback.
"We wanted to get him some touches. We thought we'd be OK because we match up pretty well physically and he gaves us a great performance."
