GIRLS SOCCER: Bring on Waterville?
It's hard to imagine anyone wanting to play the undefeated Waterville girls soccer team, but there was Mt. Blue coach Dave Ronald on Tuesday welcoming the daunting challenge.
Mt. Blue (11-3-1) will play Waterville (16-0-0) at Thomas College on Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner advances to the regional final.
"I think we gave them the toughest test of the year," Ronald said.
It was certainly up there. The Cougars lost 5-0 in the first meeting but just 2-0 in the rematch.
"When they came to Farmington, it was 0-0 with four and a half minutes remaining," Ronald said. "They scored, and we went on the attack and they got another one."
Ronald added that Waterville coach Ian Wilson is a pit of a prognosticator, as well.
"In the preseason, he mentioned us and Brunswick as the toughest teams with Waterville," Ronald said. "Well, here we are, seeds, 1, 2 and 4 are left."
Second-seeded Brunswick (13-1-1) hosts Bangor in a quarterfinal game Wednesday.
