Beckwith works the sidelines

Those old enough to remember Donnie Beckwith the player shouldn't be surprised with Donnie Beckwith the coach.

As a player at Richmond, Beckwith played with passion and emotion, helping the Bobcats to four straight Class C state titles. He's brought that same style and passion to the sidelines at Maranacook. In Wednesday's 5-0 Class B quarterfinal win over Lincoln Academy, Beckwith was at his best, working harder than anyone on the field, exhorting his players to get after the ball, all the while handing out tidbits on the smaller aspects of the game.
Since he played everyone on his bench, no one escaped his praise, or for that matter his wrath. Make a mistake and you'd likely get a warning. Do it again and you'll find yourself on the bench, but not before a mini-lecture on what you did wrong and how you could correct it. It might sound harsh to some, but it's worked for the Black Bears ever since Beckwith took over six years ago.
He's knows the game, but his strength is motivation, and his players respond. That's why Maranacook has one of the best soccer programs around.
