A look at local athletes playing in college
Here's a look at a few college basketball players who are alumni of central Maine high schools. As you'll see, some of these players are already making a big impact as freshmen.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Cony grad Monica White, best known as a softball pitcher who had a 30-strikeout game in high school, is starting at Rivier College. White is averaging 9.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. The Raiders are off to a 4-2 start after defeating UMaine-Farmington, 74-65, earlier this week. Riv's first win of the season was 111-15 (yes, they won by 96 points) over the College of New Rochelle.
Skowhegan grad Nicole Paradis continues to shoot well from three-point land for USM women's basketball. Paradis is 6 of 12 behind the arc this season and 68 for 167 (.407) from long distance for her college career.
Cony grad Rachael Mack is averaging double figures in scoring as a freshman at Colby despite being fifth on the team in field goal attempts. Mack has taken 11 shots and made nine in two games. She also has seven blocked shots.
Kelley Paradis was a do-everything type player at Nokomis and that's still the case in her freshman year at the University of New England. Paradis leads UNE in rebounds and is second on the team in steals, assists and three-point percentage.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Maranacook grad Will Bardaglio already has a role as a freshman at Colby-Sawyer, and he's filling it pretty well. Bardaglio has 22 field goal attempts in four games, and 18 of them are 3-pointers. He's made 11, so he's shooting 61.1 percent from behind the arc.
