New website in progress for high school sports
Luke Thomas envisions a website where sports fans around the state can contribute articles and upload videos and photos. There's not much on there now, but it's an idea with a lot of potential.
Thomas is a senior at Brewer High School and is also a student at United Technologies Center. He created the site because of his own craving for more high school sports information in Maine.
"I play soccer and participate in track for Brewer High School," Thomas said via e-mail. "When playoff time came and we played teams we didn't usually play during the season I had trouble finding out information about the opposing team.
"In a multimedia driven age where videos and photos dominate the web, I decided, 'Why not apply this to the sports community?' There are thousands of players, fans, coaches, and parents that would be interested in this project."
Thomas said he wants fans of all ages to visit the site, so he'll put a filter in place to approve all photos before they are posted. He wants people to create accounts so they can post traffic and the site can become a great stop for information about high school sports in Maine.
My feeling is, any information we can get is wonderful. In New Hampshire, scores of every game in every sport are posted on the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association site. The NHIAA is New Hampshire's version of the Maine Principals' Association, and experience tells us it's asking too much of the MPA to provide that service.
All that aside, suppose you hear about this great player from another part of the state. Wouldn't you love to be able to see video of this player?
