Fabian adjusts to college hockey

Former Messalonskee standout forward Ted Fabian is playing for Division III Fitchburg (Mass.) State University after two seasons with the Boston Bulldogs of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League.

Fabian has one goal through seven games for the Falcons (4-3-0).

"It's pretty interesting," said Fabian, a 2006 Messalonskee High School graduate. "It's not like juniors when you're playing two games back to back or three games in four days. This is definitely a little different. We've had an interesting schedule."

The Falcons, who compete in the ECAC Northeast, have waited seven or more days between games three times this season.

Fabian also said a big difference between junior and collegiate hockey is a tougher style of play.

"It was more in your face in juniors," he said. "The refs are calling everything here. Basically, there is no five-on-five anymore."

Fabian has six minutes in penalties.

"I'm mixing it up a little bit here and there," he added.

Be sure to check out Travis Lazarczyk's college connections story on Fabian in Sunday's edition of the Morning Sentinel.
