Cummings returns in time

There are good point guards and then there are caretakers of the ball. Good point guards, like Hall-Dale's Tyler Cummings, make teams go.

After recovering from a broken arm prior to the season, Cummings returned to the lineup recently and Hall-Dale is starting to take off. He had 11 assists in his first game back, a win over Jay, and nine in a win against Georges Valley on Saturday. The Bulldogs settled for a point guard by committee in Cummings' absence, hoping to limit turnovers. That's not the same as pushing the ball down the floor each possession as Cummings does and looking for an open man.
It's a bonus that Cummings can score, too, but his value is as a distributor of the ball and as the leader at the defensive end. Good passes are contagious, too, and suddenly everyone on the team is looking for the extra pass and usually connecting.
It takes a team effort to get into the postseason but no team will go far without a dynamic point guard. It's the most important position in basketball and Hall-Dale is fortunate to have their senior leader back as they head into the final three weeks of the season.
