Can Waterville boys hockey team be stopped?

A few thoughts, observations and questions on the Waterville boys hockey team (13-1-0), which is the best team in the state right now ...

• Eight of the Purple Panthers' 13 wins have been decided by three or more goals.

• They've scored nine short-handed goals this season. They've allowed only seven power-play goals. That's right, they've outscored opponents 9-7 when playing down a man.

• They've scored 10 power-play goals in their last two games. They had 10 in their previous six games.

• They were whistled for 11 penalties Saturday against Cony and just one on Monday. How does this happen, considering one official worked both games?

• Four players -- Ian Rowe, Nick Deblois, Shawn Lee and Eric Aldrich -- have scored at least 21 points.

• It's amazing goalie Nolan MacDonnell doesn't get bored on the ice. After all, he's facing an average of 14.8 shots a game.

• Is this their year?
