Oak Hill girls just miss
Congratulations to the Oak Hill girls basketball team for its 10-8 season, one of their best in recent memory.
The Raiders improved from 6-12 last season and 2-16 the year before but that wasn't good enough to make the Western Maine Class B tournament. They finished 11th in the 15 team field and only 10 teams go.
Blame it on the Heal point system if you like. Sometimes the formula that determines tournament teams can be a little unfair. But this one is more a product of being in the wrong division. Had the Raiders played in Class B East, like most of their KVAC opponents, they'd be in the preliminary round of the tournament. Fifteen teams qualified there, including three with losing records.
It's unfortunate the Raiders missed a chance to win a prelim game and get to the tournament, but it shouldn't detract from a fine season. And it's a great incentive for next year.
