A nice rematch for MDI football

Like many teams, Mt. Desert Island has taken its licks on the football field against Winslow over the past several years. The Trojans got a little payback Wednesday night in the Eastern B boys basketball prelims.

Winslow defeated MDI, 30-12, on opening night of the football season this past fall. On Wednesday, the Trojans used a 12-2 run in the final 3 1/2 minutes to defeat Winslow, 39-36 and advance to the quarterfinals at the Bangor Auditorium.

Several of the MDI football players are also on the basketball team, like quarterback Tyler Crawford, running back Terrance Jones and wide receiver Jasper Cousins.

"We tried not to think of it that way," Cousins said. "But deep down in the back of your heads, you've got to feel like you've got to pay them back a little bit.

"It was in the back of our head, but we just had to keep our focus on basketball, because it's not football anymore."
