GIRLS BASKETBALL: Like she'd been there before
When Allie Hammond stepped to the line with 10.3 seconds remaining in the Western D regional semifinals, she felt like she'd been there before.
Hammond, who made both of her foul shots to give Rangeley a 38-37 come-from-behind win over top-ranked Buckfield on Wednesday, said she put herself in a similair situation every day at practice.
"We shoot a bunch of foul shots every day and it is always, put yourself right there in the Augusta Civic Center, and we are down and you need to put these in to win," Hammond, a sophomore said. "I always did that in practice."
Hammond looked at ease when she stepped to the line Wednesday and calmly drained both shots.
"I was really confident (with Hammond going to the line," White said. "She is my foul shooting partner in practice and we put ourselves in situations like this, so we'd be ready."
Hammond and the Lakers play rival Valley in the regional final on Saturday thanks to Hammond's shot. The two teams split this season.
