Creek fights through injury

Former Maranacook Community High School standout Greg Creek will likely open the season with the team he finished with last year: The Mississippi Braves.

Mississippi, which won the Southern League championship last season, is the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.

Creek has been slowed by a left hamstring injury during spring training.

"I've been battling it," said Creek, a 2001 Maranacook graduate.

Added Atlanta Braves Director of Player Development Kurt Kemp: "I've spoken with our trainers, and he's been rehabbing. He's been resilient."

Kemp said that no final decision has been made on where Creek will play this season.

"We're still formulating our board," he said. "There are still a lot of decisions to be made."

Creek could be assigned to Gwinnett Braves, the Triple-A affiliate of Atlanta.
